Lining Inside of a Flume and Applying Polyurea to Outside Walls

GroundGuard™ pre-sprayed polyurea liners maintain impermeability and puncture resistance under harsh UV exposure and environmental extremes, resulting in a longer lifespan with little to no maintenance.

Repairing a 100-Year Old Flume for an Irrigation District

The Challenge

An irrigation district in Texas had a century old concrete flume with multiple cracks in the concrete and extensive leaks. Exposed rebar on the outside of the flume was rusting and pieces of concrete were falling off. The district was concerned about the long-term viability of this critical asset that supplied water to 44,000 acres downstream.

The Solution

GroundGuard™ liners were rolled out inside the flume and bolted into the concrete at the top of the walls. The intake and outtake were also lined to ensure a leakproof seal throughout the asset. The outside of the flume was sandblasted and primed. A gray polyurea coating was then directly sprayed onto the outer walls and bottom of this crossover to make it look like the original concrete.

The Results

The constant leaks through the concrete were eliminated and the polyurea sprayed onto the outside walls prevented continued deterioration of the rebar. The irrigation district now has a reliable asset for making water deliveries to customers downstream.
